Since returning to Chamonix i have been without a steed. Out of necessity, this has made me much more organised and a far better trail runner. When the sun is out, it is nice to see the white peaks, the broken glaciers and the shadowed forest by foot. I'm running at a level far above anything i've been able to do before, running a few half marathon distances a week.

However, now the sky is closing and the leaves are blushing. The dry summer is good for running, and the winter is good for skiing; but what do you do in the inter season, in all this mud and rain?

-embrace the mess, get on your bike! Here is mine:

It's an ex rental, Cube "Attention". Super simple and rock solid. Nice enough to ride the single track around here, and nasty enough to ride to the base of the slopes and leave it locked up every day when i go skiing.

Only complaints are that the brakes are back to front (the right way round in france) and the pedals are shin eaters. both these things should be easily fixed with a little tinkering.

At the moment, i am a very happy and very very muddy boy
